Cast of Characters
CAT IN THE HAT (M/F)- The cat is the essence of mischief, fun, and imagination. The CAT stirs things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again, helping JOJO to discover the power of his/her own imagination and a whole new way to envision the world around.
JoJo (M/F)- JoJo is a clever child with a wild imagination who’s “Thinks” seem to always get him/her into constant trouble. When her world collides with the Jungle of Nool, Jojo uses his/her “Thinks” to save his/her community along side the Cat with the Help of her friend Horton.
HORTON the ELEPHANT (M) – Horton the Elephant is a gentle giant. Horton is a big-hearted, blue-collar guy who is steadfast, responsible, and always tries to do the right thing. He is sympathetic and receptive to the world around him. He believes in the inherent goodness of the world and looks for the good in others.
MR. MAYOR & MRS. MAYOR – Mr. and Mrs. Mayor are parents trying to raise a child with a big imagination. Theses Whos may get aggravated with JoJo, but they sure love JoJo dearly. They try their best to make the right choices as parents, even if JoJo doesn’t always understand them. They are upstanding members of their community
GERTRUDE MCFUZZ – Very self conscious about her on-feather tail, Gertrude gains confidence throughout the show, changing from an anxious, nervous, shy bird into someone whose self-worth doesn’t rest on her appearance.
MAYZIE LA BIRD – Self-centered, vain, and manipulative, Mayzie ultimately means no harm, but she’s immature and makes selfish decisions. In giving her egg to Horton once and for all, she has a moment of self-awareness – she realizes she isn’t the kind of bird who would be a good parent, she does the best thing she can for the egg.
THE SOUR KANGAROO – Loud, brassy, sassy, and a lot of fun. She has a lot of diva attitude, but isn’t mean – she is just very confident and unafraid to tell it like she sees it. (Belting Alto)
YOUNG KANGAROO – Sour Kangaroo’s feisty daughter. She may be pint-sized, but she’s got big personality and is following in her mother’s footsteps.
WICKERSHAMS – These mischievous guys/gals aren’t bad, however they tease, play pranks and get a kick out of the mischief they cause mostly at another’s expense. (3-4 dancers M/F)
BIRD GIRLS – The Bird Girls are a fabulous group of lady birds who know everything going on in the jungle and support Mayzie throughout the show.
JUDGE YERTLE THE TURTLE – The authoritative judge who presides of Horton’s trial at the end of the show.
VLAD VLADIKOFF – The black-bottomed eagle who flies off with the Whos.
THE GRINCH – This classic Seuss character makes a grumpy cameo in Whoville.
THE WHOS – The Whos are a lot like you and me, only so small as to be invisible. Each Who is one-of-a-kind and creates a unique character; these are unique family groups maneuvering on an unstable world in a tight-knit community.
JUNGLE of NOOL CREATURES – Each creature in the jungle is a unique animal but also has a very human character. These fun jungle “people” have a lot of fun and include citizens, hunters, circus animals, fish, nurses, courtroom attendants.
